Updates. FINALLY!

So in my last post I told everyone that I would be updating soon... and that was 3 weeks ago. So updates.

I had my advisor appointment. She told me that URI still doesn't give credit for the program. I even asked her if they gave credit for the ACE recommended courses that Disney offers and she said that it wouldn't matter since I won't be graduating from URI anyway. In order to keep health insurance while I'm in the DCP I'm going to need to stay "enrolled" in school. So we checked out the online classes that URI offers and if any of them would transfer over to Johnson and Wales. In order to find out if they would transfer I had to email Johnson and Wales.

That's why this wait took so long. I emailed the admissions representative who then told me to email the transfer advisor. I got the wrong email for the advisor and realized it yesterday.

I emailed her my questions and she got back to me this morning. She said that the two classes offered at URI wouldn't transfer over to JWU but that they do offer credit for the courses that Disney offers. So as of right now I'm most likely going to be taking an online class per trimester while I'm down in Florida.

Also, I have exams next week and the week after. I really just want this semester to be over. I hate some of my classes and the grades will probably be too low to transfer over; I need at least a C-. I just suck at microeconomics and it's not my fault that my sociology professor's grading style doesn't allow anyone to pass.

But here's your update. Sorry it took so long!

Updates Coming!

So tomorrow at 1 o'clock I'm meeting with my advisor to talk about Disney among other things. I've been communicating with Johnson and Wales about some stuff too. So I should have a new blog post with in a couple days explaining what's happening during and after Disney.

When it Rains it Shines

So if you've been watching the national news or live in Southern New England you know that there's a whole lot of flooding going around. My campus has canceled the past 3 days of classes (yesterday, today & tomorrow). We have a pond behind my dorm that had turned into a lake. The parking lot of the mall in my hometown looks like this:

Here's a Video
:

As you can see we're a little flooded. So this morning I woke up to the sound of garbage trucks at 7:30 taking the dumpsters and I was like "hey, I'll check my email to see if classes are canceled..." So I connect my iPod to the internet and see that I have 3 new emails... I don't remember what the first two were but the next one was DISNEY!! I'M A FALL 2010 MERCH CP!!!

My roommate was up because she got a million texts about classes being canceled and I shove my iPod in her face and she was happy that I got in. Then I called my mom (and woke her up) telling her that I got in. I was so frustrated last week because I've been waiting for over 2 months now. So she was really happy for me.

So I quickly accepted and will be checking in August 9th. I was really surprised to see the first date on the list because I knew that some people haven't been able to pick it.. but I got it because I know a lot of people are going that day and I'll get first pick of the apartments. Also, I'm gonna need a roommate/apartment mates. So if you're wellness and want to live in Chatham post a comment on here!

I told my friends and they're all really excited for me and were asking me all about it. I'm really excited. I've been waiting far too long for this. I was getting really pessimistic about it thinking I wasn't going to get it and that they put me through 3 months of hell just waiting. But I got it!

I'm definitely doing the 8/9/10 pre-check-in dinner and have joined the event. I hope to see all of you down there!

P.S. You all should watch Skins. It's a British show but I've caught up on all the episodes online through Netflix and random Japanese sites. The season just ended but it's awesome. That's what I dedicated my whole spring break to lol.

Nothing New.. Just an Update

So as the title says, nothing new has happened.

Last-last Thursday I called and added Full Service Food and Beverage to my list of roles. A couple of days later I called to check on the status of my application but had to leave a message... They haven't gotten back to me from that call yet. So yesterday I emailed them asking the same thing. Hopefully they'll get back to me. Friday was the two month mark from my interview. It really sucks waiting this long. I didn't ever think of this happening when I applied.

But in other news! I got a lot of money from Johnson and Wales! So if Disney doesn't end up happening in the Fall I have JWU to look forward to!

Oh, and 33 days until the ultimate deadline of April 30th.

Six Weeks

So.. I'm officially tired of waiting. Today is my now defunct 6 week mark. I have, at most, one month and 3 weeks of more waiting. I'm basically halfway there. I'm not sure what I'll do if I have to wait 7 or 8 more weeks. Why am I pending? I thought I did everything right. I have been wanting this since my mom first told my sister about it when she was a freshman in college. That was SIX years ago. I know that I am still a freshman and that I have 3 (or more) more years to be able to do the program. But I have really gotten to know a lot of the people who are going down there either in May/June or August. I really want to meet them.

With the fact that today is my six week mark it is just sort of depressing. Why are people who apply now hearing back within 1-2 weeks and getting in?

Well, this is my pessimistic post. Now I'm going to get dinner.

Pending.

This morning I woke up and got the dreaded pending letter in my email. I honestly didn't see that coming. It said the standard thing on it and I'll hear back by April 30th. But these past 3 weeks of waiting have been SO long and now I have an infinite amount of waiting time. I'm not sure what to do. I looked on the website to see if there were any roles I wanted to add but I am not doing Quick Service because I've worked with food for the past 2 years and it won't be as much as a learning experience to do it in Disney World. So until I hear something back there will probably be even more infrequent posts here. I'll still participate in the group and chats. I want to get to know everyone! So who knows what will happen with all the pending people! I want to do this so much. Talk to you all later!

Snow Day

So today I am going to be checking my email even more than yesterday. My college has an official snow day. Not just a day where teachers cancel classes. Official snow day! We all got the email around 11 last night saying classes were canceled and ran through the halls screaming! It was so exciting!

This morning my suitemates tried waking me up saying that since it hadn't started snowing yet that classes were back on. But I knew they were playing a trick on me. So we all got breakfast.

I saw that other Molly and Lauren got their acceptances early this morning! Congrats guys!! I'm still waiting for my email! It will come sooner than later, hopefully.

I'll update this as soon as I hear back.

New Vlog.

Still Waiting

Sorry for the lack of posting. Nothing's really happened for me YET! Yesterday a lot of applicants got accepted. I signed on to Facebook after getting home from school around 4 and saw that Abby posted on the Facebook Group that she got her email. I then checked my email and I did have 3 emails, from Target, The Container Store, and something else. But no Disney. I hopped right on the chat and we all talked about where we'd want to work. I've decided that they mainly accepted FA people though some regular Falls did get accepted. And they're probably not going to send out emails during the weekends... So I'm shooting for Monday. **crossing my fingers** I wish I was in the first round of people and could be like Kris and just take the first regular fall check in date (August 9th for those asking.) I've already looked at plane tickets and how much a room would be at All-Stars. Gah I'm so excited.

So now I'm going to work until about 8 tonight so I'm hoping that my email will be sitting in my inbox. Now I just wish I had a phone where I could check my email.... if only.

So talk to you guys later. I have to get ready for work now.

Application Vlog

It's TIME!!

So I'm the billionth person to let everyone know this but APPLICATIONS ARE UP!! I had to work yesterday 12 to 5 so I checked the site in the morning but they weren't up. Then I get home and I am on facebook and I see Abby's post to the facebook group. I was excited. I watched the e-presentation but couldn't apply just then because I had to go to dance at 7. So after dance I applied. It went well. The only problem I had was during the web interview the site got screwed up and had an error and so I had to start that part all over again. I tried to put much of the same answers. But after finishing it the second time I PASSED! I was really nervous for that part. I would have been crushed if I didn't pass it.

This morning I wake up and try to schedule my phone interview around 9:30 est. The phone rings and rings forever and then I get connected. The woman asks my name and email, all that stuff. She says that she has tomorrow (Friday) at 10:15 pm availability but I couldn't take it because I have work that night. So then she puts me on hold for a long time and keeps checking in to let me know that she doesn't want me to hang up they're just opening up new interview times. So I'm on hold for like 10 minutes but I got to listen to awesome Disney music. So then something weird happens and I get connected to another person and do the whole thing over again. Then she tells me that she'll call me back with new interview times. I ask her if she'll leave a message because I have work today and dance class tonight and she said that was fine.

So hopefully she calls within the next 30 minutes before I leave for work. Or else I'm going to be a bad employee and keep my phone in my pocket and check it every 5 minutes.

Trip Report.

So I'm sitting in my room right now having a mini Pixar movie marathon. I've just started Toy Story. So I decided that I'm going to start my trip report. Here I go....

So I didn't leave until Sunday but I'm going to tell you about Saturday. By Saturday my family hadn't even packed yet. I spent that day getting every single piece of luggage out of storage. Which included the little closet/attic thing in my room, the laundry room, and my dad's office. Then I organized all my clothes and things and set them on my bed. Then I went to work at 5. After work at like 11 I took a shower. Then I started packing up the luggage. Which really doesn't take that long. Then I went to bed around 1:30ish.

At 6:30 my alarm goes off on my phone. I wake up and get my contacts, retainer and other various items in my luggage. I'm ready to go to the airport. We leave around 7:30 after packing up the car. All 5 of us breeze through check-in at southwest and through security. Now we wait. Our flight was at 8:50 and we started boarding around 8:20/30. On the plane I just listen to various podcasts and watch Finding Nemo with my brother and sister on my laptop. Then we land.

At the airport we go to Magical Express. I do love not waiting for your luggage. We board the bus and head over to Walt Disney World! About 30 minutes later we're there. Yay! My mom checks us is. The lobby was pretty busy. It was the day of the full marathon and it was around 12:30 so most of the marathoners were done with the race. Our room wasn't ready yet so we left our laptops and various items with the bell hop people. Then we head on over to Beaches and Cream for our traditional lunch.

Did I mention yet how cold it was? It was in the 30s.... it's FLORIDA! I was supposed to leave that home in Rhode Island. We were all wearing coats, scarves, and gloves. And the wait for Beaches and Cream was an hour. A lot of marathoners had gone there for lunch apparently. So after the long, cold, hungry wait we finally eat. I got a cheeseburger with fries and a vanilla coke. I love vanilla coke. I make them for myself all the time at work.

After lunch we head on over to Epcot. Usually we do MGM our first day but because Test Track was going to be down the 11th to the 17th we made sure we did it. My brother and I walked ahead of the rest of the group towards the international gateway. While we were walking we heard Christmas music.... on January 10th... 2 weeks after the fact. Once we got into Epcot we still see Christmas... At least I got to see the decorations. Especially if I don't get into the program I still saw some of Disney Christmas.

We arrived at Test Track and the wait time was absurd. We opted for the single riders line. Meanwhile my mom, dad, and sister were far behind us. My dad had hurt his leg at work a few weeks before and didn't want to use a scooter and my sister wasn't feeling well. My brother and I did the single riders line. I didn't care if we did it all together I just wanted us all to do it since it would be closed the rest of the trip.

After my family had all caught up and we all had done test track my dad and brother went to the Rose and Crown pub to get a Guinness. My sister and I headed back to the room which had become available.

Because it was a travel day we all were feeling a crappy and cranky. So we stayed in the rest of the night. Here's a picture of our view:

The next day was Monday and we headed over to MGM... sorry Disney Hollywood Studios. But to anyone who went to that park before 2008 it's still MGM to them.
PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

We headed on over to Toy Story Midway Mania. No one in my family had done this yet. The last time my brother and sister went (2006) it wasn't open. My parents went in May '08 and they left the line due to rude guests. When I went in July the line was just too long and it was too hot to wait in the outside queue. But since the weather was nice we all did it. We even got to see the lamp show. I really liked the queue to this ride. I took lots of pictures.Photobucket

After Toy Story we got lunch at the Backlot Express.. I think... I'm not sure of the name. After that we did Great Movie Ride. We had the gangster scene. I don't remember ever getting the Cowboy scene.. After that we all did Tower of Terror and my brother, sister, and I did Rockin' Roller Coaster. As we were leaving Sunset Boulevard the Streetsmosphere actors were out and about. We ran into Melvin Macheesmo. He was fantastic.

My sister actually walked up to him and asked him for an autograph. Here's a short video:

I wish I had filmed the entire time he was there.

After that we headed back to the resort. It was around 5 at that point.

After a few hours of rest we all headed out to Epcot for dinner at Les Chefs de France. I ordered the duck. It was delicious. That and the Canadian soup are my new favorite meals. After that we all wobbled back to the Boardwalk and went to sleep.

Tuesday was Epcot. You have to love Epcot if you stay at the Epcot resorts. I went everyday this trip except for Saturday.

My mom said that we were meeting someone at the Pin station. First we got fastpasses for Soarin'. Turns out the woman we were meeting was someone who my mom had been talking to to set up a Scavenger hunt... We were all a little apprehensive. It might have been better if we were all younger. The scavenger hunt took us from Mouse Gears to imagination, Mexico, Norway, China, Germany, Italy, and finally America. After all the running around we were starving and it was about 1 pm.
Photobucket

We went over to England and went to the Rose and Crown to get fish n' chips. They were delicious. After that we all minus my sister went to Soarin' to use our fastpasses. After that my parents went back to the room and my brother and did some of Future World. We did Living With the Land, which I haven't done in years. Then we did The Seas with Nemo and Friends. After that we headed on over to Spaceship Earth with a 00 wait time. Why have I ever waited in line for that attraction?! Because I go in the summer, that's why. My brother made a really crazy face for the picture in that ride and they didn't use it for the video. So don't put your hands on your face when you take the picture or else they won't use it. After that we did Mission Space and then we headed back to the hotel.

On the way back my mom texted us and said that we had a surprise Illuminations cruise that night. So it was about 6:30 by the time we got back to the room and we had to be at marina before 8 pm. That left just about an hour to rest. So I collapsed on my bed and listened to some podcasts. My brother didn't end up going on the cruise he just went to Epcot and took pictures of the show.

Our driver was really nice. He explained the whole story of Illumination. I never really noticed what exactly was on the globe as the show went on. But it was really cool. If you ever do an Illuminations cruise request Mike.

I had an early start the next morning. I had my Keys to the Kingdom tour at 8:30. I wanted to make sure I was on time because I knew they would probably leave without me. I was on the bus by 7:40. Here are some cool early morning pictures.
Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

My tour was fun. If you have read up on Walt Disney and the company's early days then don't go on the tour. Especially if you're a college program hopeful because the only cool part about this tour was going backstage. We went backstage twice. The first time we went behind Splash Mountain and into the building where they keep the Spectromagic parade floats. The head of Magic Kingdom parades was in there too and he told us a lot about how they train the drivers of the floats and why some floats might not be in the parade on some nights. His name was Bruce Wolfe. After that backstage experience we had lunch, went on the Haunted Mansion, and then went to the utilidors. We didn't really walk around a lot there. There were just some display cases specifically for the Keys to the Kingdom tour. Also I saw Woody and Jesse backstage without their heads on. That was cool and different.

After the tour I met up with my family and my brother and sister took the train over to Toontown and we did Barnstormer on our way to Tomorrowland to ride Space Mountain. After that we did Thunder Mountain because we'd grabbed fastpasses for it. Then I was dead tired and hungry. My sister and I stopped by the bakery on Main Street and I got a cheese danish. Then we went back to the hotel.

That night my brother and I went to Epcot and had dinner in Germany and watched Illuminations from the best spot to watch it. Then back to the room.

The next day we did Animal Kingdom.
Photobucket
We did Everest 3 times and then did Dinosaur and lunch. Then my dad and I headed out to go to the TTC and went over to the Richard Petty Speedway and did the Ride-along for free! From now until the end of March annual passholders can do the ride-along for free. That was really fun. You go up to 140 miles per hour.
Photobucket Photobucket

Then we went back to the TTC and on to the express monorail and did a loop around just because. Then we switched on over to the Epcot monorail to head back to the resort. As we walked through Epcot we did Spaceship Earth.

That night we did Cirque du Soleil. That was our prize for the scavenger hunt the other day. That was the second time I saw the show. It was still amazing. I can't believe how they put on that show so many nights a week. After the show we had dinner at Raglan Road. We had a table right by the Irish step dancer. Okay, so I've done Irish step dancing since I was in first grade and I could tell she was not putting her heart and soul into the dances she did. She just did enough to look cool.

Then we headed back to the hotel.

The next day was a free morning. We didn't have any parks planned just afternoon tea. So I went to Downtown Disney to do some shopping. I just walked around through most of the stores. I bought two pins at the pin store and used my discount. Then I went to World of Disney and bought a sweatshirt for myself and a present for my best friend's birthday. Then I headed on over to the Contemporary to look around. Then I took the monorail over to the Polynesian.

Photobucket Photobucket PhotobucketI just hung out on the beach. Then I took the boat over to the Magic Kingdom and went over to Fantasyland. I was just wasting time before tea. I only did one attraction, Mickey's Philharmagic. Then I headed on over to the Grand Floridian. I waited in the lobby for my parents and then we went to tea. I had the herbal tea and we all had The Grand Tea. (This is just coppied and pasted from AllEars) The classic English tradition of Afternoon Tea, Grand Floridian style. We offer you a variety of tea sandwiches, scones and jam tarts, followed by your choice of our freshly baked tea pastries or English trifle, accompanied by a glass of Domaine Ste.-Michelle sparkling wine and your choice of tea.

The food was really good and I was stuffed. We then went back to the hotel. That night my dad, sister, and I did one last night in Epcot. I had Germany again for dinner. Then because it was Extra Magic Hours we did the Malstrom, the American Adventure, and Oh Canada. By then it was 11:30 and we went back to the room for the last night. =[

In the morning I packed, aka I threw all my dirty laundry into my luggage in a pile and packed up all my toiletries. Then we went over to MGM and did Toy Story Midway Mania one last time. My score went down.. My shooter didn't shoot where I pointed and I had difficulty changing the angle. Then we had lunch over on Sunset Boulevard and headed back to the Boardwalk and on to Magical Express.

That was my trip.. I didn't do as much as I planned. I didn't get to go character hunting or visit the moderate/value resorts. Those things will just have to be left for when I'm there for the program at some point in the next 4 years.

I hope you guys enjoyed reading this and looking at my pictures and videos. I know I'm not the best writer so I'm sorry if I pained you with my horrible grammar and punctuation. My brother is the journalism major.

Hopefully the applications will come out tomorrow. *crossing my fingers*

If I get in...

So I've decided that if I get into the Fall 2010 program that I'm buying myself some Vera Bradly travel bags. I love the new patterns that are out for Spring. I'm either going to get a Weekender/Get Carried Away Tote/Miller Bag/Small Duffel with a Mini Hipster for the parks and maybe an actual purse.

I can't wait for applications to come out. In the chat last night we were all hoping they come out sometime this week but Kirstin (I think..?) was saying how they're probably going to come out in February.... I think I'm able to wait a few more week because I've been waiting for the past 4 months.

I've always wanted to do the Disney College Program ever since around 8th grade. I always knew it was an option for me. I just kind of forgot about it... well I didn't even realize that I could do it SO soon once I started college. I was just taking classes and then one day I pop on the DIS College Boards and then on the WDWCP website and looked up the closest presentation to me. That's when I made the blog.

I didn't want to do Spring '10 because I wanted to live on campus for a full year. Also this was all before I started thinking about transferring to Johnson and Wales. So Fall '10 it is for me. I've thought about advantage but I really want to save up some money this summer where I currently work. I've gained some seniority there and can get a lot of shifts.

If I don't get into the Fall '10 program I can either stay at URI, go to community college to get my gen-eds done cheaply, or fully transfer to Johnson and Wales. If I transfer to JWU before I ever do the DCP then I have to do a quarter term for the DCP. I'm not sure if I'm going to like the summer at Disney that's why I'm starting off with just plain Fall 2010.

I know I'm repeating myself somewhat on this post. But I'm also reassuring myself on what I want to do.

So for now all I have to do is wait for applications to come out in the upcoming days/weeks. Then the whole thing's a waiting game. So let the games begin!

Oh remember how I was stressing about my finals? I passed all of them. I thought I was going to fail history and got a C- in the class. Nutrition I got a C in. I'm not ususally a C person, but those classes weren't my best. Over all I got a 2.89 gpa. This semester I'm going to try a lot harder but that will be difficult with apps lol.

All you Fall '10 hopefuls join the Facebook group and come chat with us almost nightly in the AIM Chat.

My trip report will be coming up. So stay tuned.

Sorry 'bout that...

Sorry for the lack of posting. If you didn't know I was in Disney World on vacation with my family. I did have my computer and internet access but I just didn't update there. I'm back home now. Go back to school in a week too. Blah. Back to real life. I'm going to post a mini trip-report here with lots of pictures. I didn't take videos like my last trip because editing that vacation video was just annoying. So prepare for lots of Disney.
